Product Update: Flood Control

Good Afternoon,

Ansergy has released Flood Control,  a new report in its Hydro Group. You may access the data here, or at:

/ Fundamentals / Hydro / Water Supply / Flood Control

As with most of our reports, we lead with a summary table, though in this one it is the entire dataset:

By clicking the “+” to the left of the description you can see an index of field names:

We’ve all (or I should say, we all SHOULD have) experienced the nightmare of working with the Corps abysmal .pdf reports.  After completing this scrape one of our analysts figured out what PDF stands for:

Preclude Data Functionality

it’s awful, now it’s not; now you can view all output from the pdf in an easy to use report. Let me share a few examples.

In this case, I wanted to see all of the drafts for the last 18 years at Coulee by the end of the seasons (April 30) measured in forebay (feet). Let’s say that we know the Apr-Aug WY17 is going to be 94%; what range of values should we expect this week from the current Flood Control?

Easy, just sort the TDA column ascending, read down to your Apr-Aug expectations (mine are 94%) and look at the column to the left; those were the drafts released in the first report (Jan) for each of those years. In other words, expect a draft from 1237 to 1254, and we think 1254 is an outlier possibly influenced by a pre-disposition towards drum gate work last year.

What about the other projects? I’ll use the above table to select a most likely year (s) and filter out just those years for all plants:

Bam, there are the forebay elevations as of Apr 30 for the two years I think are most like this year: 2004 and 2006. Want it in KAF?

Voila, ask, and you shall receive. We also toss in a bonus report, a chart:

In this plot, we took all forecasts for Coulee (Jan, Feb, Mar, & Apr) and displayed the final elevation for the project by year.  For the record, we are leaning towards a draft with a 1230 handle.

So, if you are sick of staring at .pdfs (we are !); stare no longer, Ansergy just made your life less insane.

Cheers,

Team Ansergy
